Tourism bureau launches Spanish 'microsite'

That’s the message Spanish-speaking potential visitors to the Rockford region will get on the Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau’s new “En Espanol” page of its Web site. It’s a portion of the site in Spanish and has its own version of the “Real. Original. Rockford.” marketing slogan.

It isn’t a word-for-word translation of the bureau’s home page, but a conversational Spanish version of the page available by clicking a link in the upper right corner of the bureau’s home page, RACVB Executive Director John Groh said.

“It’s one tool that allows us to reach out to a robust demographic,” Groh said.

Representing 15 percent of the population in Illinois, Hispanic populations are projected to grow over the next decade. The Spanish language Web page, known as a “microsite,” is part of an Illinois Office of Tourism pilot program geared toward attracting Spanish-speaking travelers from the Midwest and internationally.
